I’m normally not a fan of hikes (since my parents took me on so many when I was younger – sometimes 12 miles long), but I decided to strap on my hiking boots and give ’em another go this weekend. Griffith Park is known for its hike near the historic Hollywood sign, but also for its rugged hills and overlooks around the Griffith Observatory. I had been to the observatory before, but had never hiked around there in my five years of living in LA. My friend and I parked at the Greek Theatre near the bottom of the road that leads up to the observatory, and then hiked up to the trails. I strongly suggest parking at the Greek Theatre because 1) it’s free (but you must move your car before 5pm due to any shows later in the night) and 2) parking near the observatory can be difficult especially during the week. Now I’m not exactly sure what trail we did — we kind of just haphazardly walked up to the trails, then took a loop that led us to the observatory and then back down to the Greek Theatre. We actually took a short cut going back down which I’m pretty sure wasn’t an actual trail because the gravel was super loose and we ended up skidding a couple times (I fell once, my friend fell 3 times haha) #YOLO. I managed to get a few pictures along the way but we made the mistake of hiking during the hottest part of the day (12:30 – 2:30pm) so I was literally drenched in sweat (hence the photos from behind). All in all, it was still a good time, and is a great way to exercise. I think I will check out some hikes closer to the west side where I live soon. If anyone has any information on some intermediate hikes around the Brentwood area, feel free to comment Happy hiking!
